In This Episode of Unpopular Culture Podcast Michael Drane and Andrew Baker team up to talk about 6 things any of us can do to improve our relationship. However, they take special care to touch on things that people with Borderline Personality Disorder might need to know. This episode is full of many helpful tips but shouldn’t be used as a substitute for mental health therapy.
1. Knowing What You Want.
Very important in a relationship to know what you desire. Because then you can properly try to get those things inside of a relationship. In this episode we talk about things that might help like mindfulness and role models.
2. Asking For What You Want.
Put your needs into words that are clear, not attacking.
3. Negotiating Conflict Wants.
Healthy relationships balance the needs of the self with the needs of the other. Relationships don’t usually last long with one person getting all their needs met.
4. Getting Information
Ask for information on how the other person is feeling. Do not assume what the other person is feeling or wanting.
5. Saying No In A Way That Protects The Relationship.
It is important to say no. However it is important to do it in a strong, but validating way.
6. Acting According To Your Values.
The way you treat these people must be associated with your values in that relationship. They need to match.
